Range hood problems we fix in Chicagoland

A hood that hums but won't spin, a light that stays dark, a fan stuck on one speed or a rattle that gets louder every week: these are everyday repairs. Our Chicagoland technicians diagnose the hood in place and fix it without tearing out cabinets.

Fan runs but barely pulls air

Poor airflow usually has a blockage behind it: grease, a stuck damper or a crushed duct. We find it and clear or replace the part.

Fan stuck on one speed

Losing speeds points to the speed control rather than the motor in most cases. We test the switch and the board.

Fan and light both dead

If nothing on the hood responds, we start with the power supply: the breaker, the wiring connection in the hood and the main control board.

Light not working but the fan is

A dark light with a working fan is usually a bulb, a socket or the light switch. We swap the bulb type the hood calls for or replace the socket.

Fan not working but the light is

If only the fan has quit, we check the switch and control circuit first, then the motor windings and capacitor where the hood has one.

Backdraft damper stuck open or shut

If you feel a cold draft from the hood in winter, the backdraft damper usually isn't closing. Grease or a bent flap is the common cause.

Buttons or touch panel not responding

Unresponsive controls can sometimes be cleared by cutting power for a minute; when they can't, we replace the keypad or board.

Fan won't turn off

Some hoods have a heat sensor that starts the fan automatically when the cooktop is hot; if it runs with everything cold, the control is at fault.

Range Hood Repair: common questions

Why won't my range hood fan turn off?
Most often the switch or the board is stuck closed. We replace the faulty part.
Do you repair all range hood brands?
We repair hoods from many makers; if parts are unavailable for yours, we'll tell you.
When should I replace a range hood instead of repairing it?
If the repair costs close to a new hood, or the old one never vented well, replacement is the better spend.
Why does my range hood fan not work but the light does?
Because the light and fan run on separate circuits inside the hood. A failed fan switch, speed control, thermal cutoff or motor is usually behind it.
Why do I feel cold air coming from my hood?
It's almost always the damper. Cleaning or replacing it usually stops the draft.
