We take the small jobs too: a leaking sink, a broken drawer, a new dishwasher or a range hood that stopped venting.
Two-prong outlets and old drain lines are common here. We plan dedicated circuits and new piping where the remodel opens walls.
With so many older homes, lead-safe practices are routine for us when we disturb old paint on walls, trim or cabinets.
In condo buildings the association sets the rules for noise, deliveries and plumbing changes; we handle the paperwork and plan around them.
Before
AfterThis one is a 1920s bungalow in Evanston. Before: 1980s honey-oak raised-panel cabinets installed over the old plaster, dark brown speckled laminate and an almond range and refrigerator. The reason for the call: a cramped layout with nowhere to prep. Finished kitchen: a new layout with an island, cabinets in light greige uppers and muted blue lowers, creamy quartzite-look quartz counters and two glass pendants and recessed lights.

Before
AfterThis one is a brick bungalow from the 1920s in Evanston. Before: 1960s birch cabinets painted cream over the years, chipped door edges, old brass hardware, worn beige laminate with a metal edge strip, cracked sheet linoleum and a single glass ceiling fixture. The main complaint was worn-out cabinets and a kitchen that no longer worked. The result: soft sage-green inset-style cabinets with unlacquered brass hardware, honed white marble-look quartz counters, a white handmade-look square tile backsplash, restored oak strip floor and schoolhouse pendant lights.

AfterThe site: a brick bungalow from the 1920s in Evanston. What we started with: 1960s birch cabinets painted cream over the years, chipped door edges, old brass hardware and worn beige laminate with a metal edge strip. The main complaint was too little counter space and nowhere to sit. After: a new island in navy with a dark soapstone-look quartz top and seating.
