Layout problems we solve in Lisle kitchens

Good kitchen design in Lisle starts with a tape measure and a list of what annoys you every day. We draw the layout, place the appliances, plan storage and lighting, and show you 3D views before a single cabinet is ordered.

A 1980s layout with a peninsula and soffits

Many 1980s kitchens have a peninsula that blocks the dining area and soffits that eat the top of the wall. We check what's inside the soffits and whether the peninsula can open up or turn into an island.

Condo kitchen with fixed plumbing

In many condo buildings the plumbing stack and the range vent can't move. We design around them and still find room for better storage and a working layout.

The work triangle doesn't work

Sink on one end, range on the other and the fridge around a corner means miles of walking per meal. A redrawn plan keeps each leg of the triangle short and out of the traffic path.

Corners and dead storage

Half the cabinet volume in many kitchens is hard to reach: deep corners, tall uppers, shelves at the back. A drawer-first plan puts most of it within easy reach.

Lighting and outlets planned as an afterthought

Outlets that land behind the coffee maker and a single switch for the whole room come from skipping the electrical plan. Ours shows every light, switch and outlet.

Sink and range on the same wall

If the sink and stove fight for the same strip of counter, we split them: a prep sink, a peninsula or a re-planned run gives each its own working space.

Aisles that are too tight or too wide

Two people can't pass and the dishwasher door blocks the walkway. We size the aisles for how many cooks you have, usually around 42 inches for one and wider for two.

No landing space next to appliances

If you have to turn around to put anything down when the oven door is open, the landing areas are missing. We plan counter space exactly where hands need it.

Materials and options

Peninsula instead of an islandGives most of an island's benefits in rooms that can't spare the floor space.
Two-tone and wood accentsContrasting island or lower cabinets, a look that tends to age better than one-season trends.
Shaker and slab cabinet stylesShaker doors suit most homes; slab doors give a cleaner, modern look.
L-shaped layout with an islandTwo perpendicular runs plus an island, which works well when the room is open on one side.
U-shaped layoutCabinets on three sides, a good choice for a closed kitchen where one cook does most of the work.

The site: a two-story colonial from the 1990s near Oakview. Before: golden-oak cabinets with oak soffits above, white Corian-style solid surface with a yellowed seam and black appliances. The main complaint was a kitchen closed off from the rest of the house. After: a new layout with an island, cabinets in light warm taupe, warm walnut butcher block counters and recessed lights and under-cabinet LED strips. Work included layout options, appliance plan, plus written, itemized estimate.

What bothered the owners most: a kitchen closed off from the rest of the house. Finished kitchen: a new layout with an island, cabinets in light greige uppers and muted blue lowers, black honed granite counters and two glass pendants and recessed lights. On site this meant layout options, cabinet and storage layout, plus material selections.

Kitchen Design & Layout Planning in a two-story colonial from the 1990s, Woodridge

A two-story colonial from the 1990s near The Ridge, a typical kitchen for Woodridge. Before: white thermofoil cabinets peeling at the edges, oak trim, white ceramic tile with dark stained grout lines and white appliances. The reason for the call: cabinets and a layout that no longer fit how they cook. Finished kitchen: a new layout with an island, cabinets in terracotta, charcoal concrete-look quartz counters and a flush drum fixture and under-cabinet lights. On site this meant needs and habits interview, 3D views, plus written, itemized estimate.

Kitchen Design & Layout Planning questions from Lisle homeowners

Can you design a condo kitchen?
We do. Condo plans start with the building's rules and fixed plumbing; we design around both.
Do I need a designer if I already know what I want?
Yes, if you want the result to match the picture. We turn your ideas into measured drawings and flag anything that won't fit.
Which layout suits my kitchen: galley, L, U or island?
It depends on the room's shape, the doorways and how many people cook. We usually draw two or three options so you can compare them on your own floor plan.
How long does the design take?
A simple refresh can be planned quickly; a full re-layout with permit drawings takes longer. We give you a timeline at the first meeting.
Which kitchen trends will date quickly?
Bold finishes on surfaces that are hard to replace age fastest. We suggest timeless boxes and counters with personality in the details.
Do Lisle condo associations need to approve kitchen design?
Associations usually set rules for work hours, elevators, deliveries and insurance, and many require approval for plumbing, electrical or structural changes. We provide the certificate of insurance and follow the building's rules.
What is the Lisle building department phone number?
Permits go through Development Services Department, phone 630-271-4150. When your scope needs one, we prepare the application and schedule the inspections.
Do you work in my part of Lisle?
Yes. Our crews work across Lisle, including Oakview, The Meadows, Four Lakes Village — ZIP 60532 — and nearby Downers Grove, Woodridge, Wheaton.
