Kitchen Installation Instructions: Where to Find Range Hood, Pantry, Island and Cabinet Manuals

The manufacturer's installation instructions are the first document to read before buying or installing anything in a kitchen. They list the cabinet opening, duct size, mounting height, electrical and plumbing requirements and the hardware the warranty assumes you used. Inspectors often check work against them, and many warranties depend on following them. This page is a practical index of where to find installation manuals for range hoods, pull-out pantries, wire shelving, IKEA kitchens, kitchen islands and backsplash tile, plus the planning guidelines designers use.

Links below point to the manufacturers' own sites, which we checked when this page was written. Companies move their documents around, so if a link changes, search the manufacturer's site for the model number plus "installation". We are an independent kitchen contractor and are not affiliated with any brand listed here; brands are named only so you can find the right documents.

How to find the installation manual for any kitchen product

Start with the exact model number, not the product name. It is usually on a label inside the hood behind the filters, on the side of a pull-out frame, on the carton or on your order confirmation. Then try these places in order:

  • The manufacturer's support or owner-resources page, searched by model number.
  • The documents or specifications tab on the product page where you bought it.
  • The printed manual in the box; take a photo of every page before the box goes out.
  • The manufacturer's official video channel, which often has installation videos by series.
  • Customer service, if the model is discontinued; many makers keep manuals for older models.

Range hood installation manuals

Range hood manuals specify duct size and type, maximum duct run and elbows, mounting height above the cooktop, whether the hood can be ducted or recirculated, and the electrical connection. Read them before you buy, because a hood that needs a larger duct than your kitchen has changes the whole job.

For Broan and NuTone range hoods, installation guides are posted as PDFs on the Broan-NuTone site, searchable by model. Zephyr range hood installation manuals and spec sheets are in its help center and owner resources. ZLINE keeps a manuals page for its range hoods, and the ZLINE range hood installation manual for each model is listed there. Cosmo range hood installation documents are on Cosmo's manuals page. KitchenAid and Wolf range hood installation instructions are on their brands' sites under owner or product resources; Wolf's resources page includes design and installation guides.

Hoods from brands sold mainly through online stores and home centers, such as Vissani, Comfee, Forno, Winflo, iKTCH, Sndoas and FIREGAS, include an installation manual in the box, and the retailer's product page usually links a PDF under specifications or documents. For Vissani 30 inch and other under-cabinet range hood installation, check the cabinet bottom depth and the knockout locations listed in the manual before mounting.

Pull-out pantry and pantry organizer instructions

Pull-out pantry hardware is sized to a specific cabinet opening and depth, and the mounting differs for framed and frameless cabinets. Download instructions before ordering to confirm the opening.

  • Rev-A-Shelf: each product page lists installation instructions as a PDF; pull out pantry, swing out pantry and wood pantry units each have their own series documents, and installation videos are on its video channel.
  • Hafele: pull out pantry installation instructions are listed with the product on Hafele's site.
  • KraftMaid: cabinet installation support, product specifications, and brochures and guides, including tall pantry cabinet and pantry swing out installation guidance, are on KraftMaid's support pages.
  • Elfa: Elfa pantry door rack and pantry door installation is covered in the planning and installation materials supplied with the system and on the Elfa site.
  • ClosetMaid: pantry wire shelving installation instructions and wire shelving specifications are on ClosetMaid's site.
  • Klearvue: pantry cabinet installation guides and an installation video library are on the Klearvue Cabinetry site.
  • Arova, IPC Interstock and similar pantry pullout makers: instructions ship with the unit and are often posted on the retailer's product page.

IKEA kitchen installation guides and planner

IKEA publishes a kitchen installation guide PDF for its SEKTION system that walks through preparing the room, mounting the suspension rail, setting base cabinets and fitting doors and panels. Each cabinet, front and organizer also has its own assembly instructions on the product page, under the product's documents. IKEA pantry cabinet installation instructions and IKEA kitchen island installation instructions come from these same product-level documents; there is no separate island manual, because islands are built from standard base cabinets, cover panels and plinths.

The IKEA kitchen planner runs in a browser rather than as a download; you log in with an IKEA account to save and share designs. IKEA no longer prints its annual catalog, so the current kitchen cabinets catalog is effectively the kitchen section of the IKEA website.

Kitchen island installation instructions

Freestanding islands and kitchen carts sold as furniture, such as Darby Home Co or Sammons kitchen islands with a wood top, come with assembly instructions in the box and often an installation video on the seller's product page. They are designed to stand on their own and usually are not anchored to the floor.

Cabinet-based islands, including Wren kitchen island installation and other cabinet lines, follow the cabinet maker's installation guide: base cabinets leveled and fastened to the floor or to blocking, finished end and back panels, and counter supports for any overhang. Electrical outlets on an island should be planned with an electrician before the cabinets go in.

Backsplash and countertop installation guides

For tile backsplash installation, MSI's site (msistone com redirects to msisurfaces.com) offers backsplash tile guides and installation videos, including mosaic and glass tile steps. The tile maker's instructions specify the setting material, trowel size and grout type; follow them over general advice, especially for glass and natural stone. Quartz and stone countertop makers publish care and fabrication guidance, but counters are templated and installed by the fabricator.

Planning guidelines and appliance cutout specs

For layout, the National Kitchen and Bath Association publishes kitchen planning guidelines covering work aisles, landing areas next to appliances, clearances and counter space. They are guidelines, not code, but they are widely used by designers. Local building codes still govern electrical, plumbing, venting and egress, and rules vary by village.

For appliances, the installation manual or specification sheet gives the exact cutout width, height and depth, required gaps for ventilation and door swing, and the location of outlets, water and gas lines. Download these before cabinets are ordered; changing an opening after the cabinets arrive is one of the most common avoidable delays we see.
