Island and peninsula problems we solve in Carol Stream

Most Carol Stream homeowners want the same three things from an island: more counter space, a place to sit and extra storage. We plan the size around the room, run the electrical the code usually calls for, and suggest a peninsula when an island would crowd the kitchen.

Dated peninsula with a half wall

A half wall on the peninsula hides the cook. We remove it, move the outlets to code-compliant spots and add seating.

Concrete floor in a condo

On a slab, every line to the island needs a path. We work with the association on what can be cut, or plan the island without plumbing.

Small kitchen with no room for an island

When the room can't spare aisles on all sides, a peninsula gives you seating and counter space attached to an existing run.

Aisles too tight around the island

If two people can't pass each other between the island and the counters, the walkway is short. We rework the footprint so traffic flows.

Clutter with no storage

Counters full of things that have nowhere to go? Island drawers and pull-outs give them a home.

Cracked overhang on a stone top

Stone seating ledges need hidden support plates or brackets once they reach past what the slab can carry alone. We build them in.

No outlets at the island

An island without power can't hold a blender or charge a phone. We add GFCI-protected outlets on the side or a pop-up in the top.

Island in the dark

One ceiling light over the island leaves shadows on the work surface. We add pendants on their own switch and dimmer.

The site: a 1990s two-story colonial in Carol Stream. Before: white thermofoil cabinets peeling at the edges, oak trim and white ceramic tile with dark stained grout lines. Kitchen Island & Peninsula Installation questions from Carol Stream homeowners

Can you put a cooktop or range in the island?
We can, as long as there's a way to vent it and safe counter space on each side. We plan the hood and the utility lines together.
How long does island installation take?
The island itself goes in quickly. Waiting for cabinets, inspections and the countertop fabrication is what sets the total schedule.
Can you add a sink to a kitchen island?
In most houses with a basement or crawl space, yes. Slab floors and condos take more planning and sometimes aren't practical.
Can the island match my existing cabinets?
Yes. We match door style and finish as closely as possible, or suggest a contrasting color so small differences don't matter.
How much overhang do I need for seating?
Roughly 12 to 15 inches at counter height is common, with about 24 inches of width per stool. Stone overhangs that deep usually need brackets.
Do Carol Stream condo associations need to approve island project?
Associations usually set rules for work hours, elevators, deliveries and insurance, and many require approval for plumbing, electrical or structural changes. We provide the certificate of insurance and follow the building's rules.
Carol Stream plumbing code: who can do the plumbing for island project?
Checklists ask for plumbing contractor's license and plumber's license unless the homeowner does the work. Our plumbing connections are made by licensed plumbers.
Does island project need a Carol Stream building permit, and who files it?
Permits go through Community Development Department, Building Permits & Inspections, phone (630) 871-6230. When your scope needs one, we prepare the application and schedule the inspections.
What does Carol Stream ask for on electrical work?
Permit checklists ask for a copy of the electrical contractor's license unless the homeowner does the work. New circuits and wiring are done by licensed electricians.
Do I need a permit for island project in Carol Stream?
It depends on the scope. Carol Stream's rule in short: Permit required for most remodeling; exempt only if no structural change and no alteration or relocation of plumbing, heating or electrical; fixture swaps without piping changes are exempt. We handle the permit when one is needed with Community Development Department, Building Permits & Inspections.
Do you work in my part of Carol Stream?
Yes. Our crews work across Carol Stream — ZIP 60188 — and nearby Glendale Heights, Winfield, Bloomingdale.
