Switches in the wrong place or one switch for everything
A switch on the far side of the room is a daily nuisance. We move or add controls where you walk in.

Recessed, pendant and under-cabinet lighting for Bartlett kitchens, laid out so the counters are bright and wired by a licensed electrician.
Most kitchens have enough light in the middle of the floor and too little where you actually chop and read recipes. In Bartlett we plan lighting in layers: recessed or ceiling light for the room, under-cabinet strips for the counters, pendants over the island, each on its own switch or dimmer.
A switch on the far side of the room is a daily nuisance. We move or add controls where you walk in.
On a top-floor kitchen, we use IC-rated, airtight recessed lights so the insulation stays in place and heat doesn't escape.
Hardwired LED strips run from a wall switch with the driver hidden in a cabinet, and the wiring disappears. Plug-in kits are simpler but leave a cord to an outlet.
If the lights hum or pulse when dimmed, the dimmer and the driver don't agree. We pair them properly.
The sink is where you need light most and often have the least. A recessed light or small pendant above it solves that.
Slim wafer fixtures need only a small hole and little room above. Housings with trims are better when you want to change trims later.
We cut new recessed lights into a finished ceiling, fish the wire from the switch and keep patching to a minimum.
To hang pendants over a new island, the ceiling boxes have to be in the right spots and rated for the weight. We set them, then fine-tune the drop.
Before
AfterA 1980s two-story in Bartlett, a typical kitchen for Bartlett. The kitchen as it was: two hanging glass pendants. What bothered the owners most: dim counters despite the ceiling lights. The result: black cage pendants and slim recessed lights on separate switches. The job covered old fixtures removed, fixtures installed, plus switches and dimmers.

AfterThis one is a raised ranch in Hanover Park. Before: a hanging swag lamp. What bothered the owners most: one ceiling fixture lighting the whole room. After: two glass pendants and recessed lights on separate switches. On site this meant lighting layout, old fixtures removed, plus wire fished to fixtures and switches.
