Canned or canless recessed lights?
Slim wafer fixtures need only a small hole and little room above. Housings with trims are better when you want to change trims later.
Serving Skokie & nearby Evanston, Park Ridge
Recessed, pendant and under-cabinet lighting for Skokie kitchens, laid out so the counters are bright and wired by a licensed electrician.
Most kitchens have enough light in the middle of the floor and too little where you actually chop and read recipes. In Skokie we plan lighting in layers: recessed or ceiling light for the room, under-cabinet strips for the counters, pendants over the island, each on its own switch or dimmer.
Slim wafer fixtures need only a small hole and little room above. Housings with trims are better when you want to change trims later.
A single dome or flush fixture can't light a whole kitchen evenly. We replace it with a layout of recessed or surface LEDs across the ceiling.
Non-IC cans need clearance from insulation. We install fixtures rated for contact so the attic stays fully insulated.
If the counters look dim even with every switch on, the light is in the wrong place, not too weak. We move it over the work zones.
Adding can lights to a finished kitchen is mostly careful cutting and fishing wire. We plan the grid around joists, ducts and plumbing above.
If your under-cabinet lights glare off the stone, we swap them for diffused LEDs and add a light rail where needed to hide them.
When every light is on one switch, you can't set a softer evening light. We split the layers onto separate switches and dimmers.
If the lights hum or pulse when dimmed, the dimmer and the driver don't agree. We pair them properly.

AfterThe site: a prewar brick bungalow in Evanston. What we started with: a single pendant bowl light. What bothered the owners most: one ceiling fixture lighting the whole room. After: a flush drum fixture and under-cabinet lights on separate switches. The job covered old fixtures removed, ceiling openings and boxes, plus testing and adjustment.
